Glowing Skin
Glowing skin starts with your gut and what you feed it. Don’t turn into a Disney witch! Read on for what you should feed your face with. Poisoned apples need not apply.
I know what you are thinking, and yes water should be at the top of this list, but water can only do so much for the largest organ in our body. (Hint: It’s your skin!) Water in fact only hydrates your skin a little bit. Glowing, healthy complexions come from wholesome foods that make your gut break out into its disco diva dance routine. Water is like the bouncer at da club that flushes all the bad toxins out of your body thereby giving the good nutrients the power to #YOLO and party all night long. Chugging water is fantastic, but you need to be eating well to look and feel amazing. What are these magic boosters you ask?
HEALTHY FATS. That’s right bitches. Fat. I’m talking avocados, nuts, seeds, salmon, clean oils like coconut and olive, and flax. We live in a counter culture where fats have been given a bad rep. Healthy fats will give you the boost that you need and can even help you lose weight by giving your body fat that it knows how to use for fuel instead of garbage that ends up pitching a tent on your thighs.
VITAMINS A, C, AND E. It’s a vitamin BONANZA!!! Did you know strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges or grapefruit? You better get those babies dropped in some dark chocolate for date night! Dark leafy greens, kiwi, peppers, acai (a magical superfruit) and also broccoli are surprising ways to get that C in yo life! Not only is vitamin A great for your eyes but it packs a power punch for your complexion. Carrots, pumpkin, spinach, kale, butternut squash, and mangoes all have mucho B. And finally, nuts, seeds, olives, spinach, and asparagus are some of my favorite E suppliers. Get the picture peeps? EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. Yes, we’ve gone back to 2nd grade. PUT THE CHICKEN FINGERS DOWN!
SPICES. Is it hot in here or is it the conga line I just joined? Oi! Oi! Spices are packed with antioxidants and we all know how amazing those are. For those that forgot why Acai had a revolution, antioxidants get rid of free radicals (toxins) that would otherwise break down the collagen that makes your skin so supple and not haggard looking. #FREETHEHAGG Cinnamon, curry, and paprika are packed with antioxidants and turmeric is great for fighting inflammation. Who’s ordering Indian for takeout tonight?!?
PROBIOTICS. A healthy gut is a happy one. A significant amount of your immune system begins in your gut and when out of balance that can not only affect your skin, but also your mood, appetite, energy, sleep patterns, and (gasp!) sex drive!! Probiotics have kick ass digestive enzymes that help your body take in as many nutrients as possible. If you spent a ton of money on vitamins and don’t have a healthy gut, chances are you’ll be peeing out more of that good stuff than taking it in. So TREAT YO SELF! A lot of peeps argue about the best way to take probiotics. I personally find powders or powders in pill form to work best. I use this probiotic and LOVE it. Yogurt gets ripped apart by acid in your stomach to leave the probiotics to fend for themselves so I look for brands that have prebiotics, probiotics, and enzymes all in one.
CHEERS TO THE GLOWING SKIN TO COME BABES!
