My name is Paul. I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Just The Tips. As you all have noticed, last week, we experienced our first major outage since starting the app 5 years ago. Now that the dust has mostly settled, I wanted to reach out and update everyone, as well as talk about what’s in store for us. Please accept my personal apology. In addition to being the Co-Founder, I also continue to wait tables at a steakhouse in NYC, so I am all to aware of the impact this outage had on everyone, as I was unable to use my own app.
When we first built Just The Tips, we never dreamed of growing to the point where our servers would be overwhelmed, so just imagine our panic when exactly that happened. We are a tiny team with full-time jobs in addition to our efforts on Just The Tips, making the scramble to get things back up and running even more difficult. Thank you Mike for juggling the first week at a new job and two kids while getting things back online.
Our mission when we started Just The Tips was to help members of the service industry improve their financial lives, and we remain as committed to that as ever. While the embarrassment still stings, this whole experience has reminded us just how much Just The Tips means to you all, and has served as a rallying point as we pursue an aggressive 2019. In light of the crash, we have upgraded our servers and plan on rolling out a feature allowing users to save to their device as well as the cloud. We will continue to work the the backlog of emails we received and try to recover as much data as possible. If we are unable to restore everything, we are truly sorry, and hope you can forgive us.
In addition to structural improvements, new features and a much needed update to our Android platform, we have some exciting things in store beyond Just The Tips, and hope you will continue to be a part of whats to come. We really appreciate your support, as that is what gets us through the “Oh Sh!t” moments like our servers crashing. We kindly ask that you continue to be patient as we dig out from this, but are confident that this crisis will lead to a better, stronger Just The Tips. To a great 2019 and beyond.
