Breakfast of Champions
Breakfast has forever been deemed “the most important meal of the day” and that, turns out can lead to some angry opinionated people on the internet. Now that we have made strides in nutrition since the 50’s glory of food pyramids, I will say that no meal should be named the most important. Meals have feelings you assholes. However, it’s all in the approach baby. Skipping breakfast can set you up for bad choices and overeating later in the day. Be honest with me, how likely is it that you’ll choose the salad or whole grain mix when you haven’t eaten all day? That’s what I thought! Point breakfast.
I’m not emphasizing a big monster breakfast either. If you have eggs, toast, porridge, cereal, fruit, sausage, and a pig roast….I will find you and slap you. In the FACE. Choose a breakfast with protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. The goal is to be full until lunch. Why start the day on empty when you can boost your concentration, focus, and productivity? Eat breakfast! Accomplish things like a cyborg! (Seriously you guys this post should be on surviving the robot apocalypse. They are coming).
BUT WHAT ARE GOOD FOODS?!?!?!? I EAT COOKIES AND PASTA!!!!
- OATMEAL. This is a classic. The Audrey Hepburn of breakfast. Oats are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and potassium. Steel cut oats have the most fiber and you know the more fiber the better friends!
- GREEK YOGURT. Packed with protein and calcium this angel never fails me. It can be mixed with chia seeds, flax, fruit, and unicorn magic. Also, I use this instead of sour cream in any occasion…breakfast tacos, puree avocados into it for a creamy topping on fish, or sauteed onions mixed in for a baller french onion dip. I’m so serious I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it!!
- FRUIT. Do as the Europeans do and get on the fruit train. Berries, bananas, watermelon, and citrus fruits are the best. They are packed with antioxidants and this bunch isn’t slammed with too much sugar.
- EGGS. Mi favorita! This one is obvious guys. Protein and vitamin D? Mic drop.
- COFFEE and TEA. Who doesn’t love a good brew in the morning? Both are chock full of antioxidants and green tea is the best of all. Not only does it hydrate you more than coffee, but enough can aid in increasing your metabolism.
- CEREAL. Stick to the whole grain or bran cereals that have less than 5 grams of sugar. But I gotta have my pops? No mas! Don’t just have a bowl of cereal though friends SPICE UP YO LIFE! #SPICEGIRLS Add some fruit, cinnamon, chia seeds….go wild!
- WHOLE WHEATS. Stop eating white bread. If it’s a beautiful fresh loaf of sourdough from the local market..great! If not, hands off! Whole wheat has more fiber and nutrients. It’s science.
- HEALTHY FATS. Avocados and almond butter for days! Don’t ruin the good you are doing by topping toast with jelly and other empty foods. Start strong! Drink your sugars later at happy hour!
- LEMON WATER. This is NOT breakfast but I wanted to include it because starting your day with lemon water is AMAZING. Your body hasn’t had any water while you were sleeping. Get hydrated!
