Lifting Ourselves Up
Anyone else been insanely inspired by the women’s march last weekend? This isn’t going to get political, although if I’m being honest I would die to see any Muppet character in the White House. Can you imagine the Swedish Chef running shit?!?! Seriously, all the images of people lifting each other up was such a breath of fresh air. Yes it was an important moment to put light on human rights, but what happens when all the signs get thrown in the trash? I want us all to think deeper and reflect about what it means to be a human being and how we all interact with other human beings. How do you treat other people? How do you treat your best friends vs. strangers vs. family? Sometimes it’s the opposite of what you’d think. We can all agree that the world can be a crazy negative place. Also, BITCHES BE CRAY!! Damn we can be so harsh to each other right? It’s like Jr. High School meanness meets Hunger Games meets all of our inner anxieties!!! Yikes Town. We all need to be kinder to one another. Even me. (And I am a freaking delight of sweetness and love) But we can all get grouchy and snap at even our most beloved of humans. I believe it is our civic duty. Starting meow. To spread positivity. AND STOP BEING DICKHOLES!!!!
But how do I stop being a Butt Snake Monster to society?!?!? LET’S BEGIN!
- OVERCOME JEALOUSY. There will always be someone doing awesomer and/or different things than you. (You live on a planet of billions of people). Let those people inspire you so you can rise to greatness too. Because spoiler alert: Thinking someone has it better than you does NOTHING for you. Bummer.
- ADVOCATE FOR ZERO TOLERANCE. Be the Wonder Woman or Michael Keaton’s Batman in your community. Cut the gossip and stand up for the good. XOXO, Gossip Girl (haha I just Inceptioned you! I was the gossip girl the whole time!!!!! hahahahahaha!) (pls someone get that reference that I poorly used). But seriously, cut the gossiping out.
- CELEBRATE THE WINS OF OTHERS. Doing so takes nothing away from you. (Unless you have to clap for a really long time. That shit sucks). Confident and happy people have room for celebrating others success.
- BE COOL. Seriously. Be fucking cool you guys. Decide what kind of person you want to be. Putting people down also generally has the opposite effect and leaves the jerk feeling like shit. Don’t make other people feel bad so you in turn can also feel bad….how does that make sense?!!?
- FIND THE BADASS. Associate with people who will inspire and support you. Be the Rafiki and lift people up for the community to love them! Now be the Simba and be loved! Doesn’t it feel good? Of course it does!!! It’s literally the best feeling. Everyone is happy. (Except for maybe the lone antelope who’s like, “WTF are we doing here?!?! Are the lions gonna eat us?!? Is this a game?!!? Why would they show us, the food, their baby?!?!? This is bullshit!!!”). But you get my point. Badass people don’t have time for putting people down. Ditch the jerks.
- LEARN AND GROW. Find others out there who can teach you new wonderful things. Better yet, give back and teach those that are following in your footsteps. We never should be outgrowing growth. Did you know that asparagus crates are built extra long because they continue to grow after they’ve been cut? (I’m chock full of garden facts you lucky ducks). Be the asparagus. Keep growing.
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. It’s hard to be a superhero when you’re exhausted and battling Earth idiots. Some days can be soul crushing enough, do we have to play whack a mole with everyone else’s dreams and dignity? So slow down and do little things for yourself so you are better equipped to take on the planet with heart and compassion. Get proper sleep, make time for meditation, or get in that trashy tv show that helps you unwind. When you are charged and happy you can do magnificent things like all the Disney princesses. Do you think all the birds and chipmunks would be doing all those dishes if they had stayed up all night? You bet your whimsical ass they wouldn’t.
There’s a lot of shit flying around so no matter what side you stand on, remember we are all humans with feelings. Let’s spread the love shall we? It’s way more fun.
